As someone who still has punk rocker friends, who are still in bands in their 30s and older, I can tell you that the beat-up station wagons, vans, and hatchbacks were often chosen for their ease of acquisition. Bought from Roto-rooter fleets, churches, and repo auctions, they were slung across the country playing gigs in shitty clubs, hoping to make enough money for gas, food, and beer until the next show.
Minor Threat always sounds best blasting from the single speaker in the center of the dash of a beat up work van.
